Now before I begin to tell you something about virtualization. Let me first tell you the History of Virtualization. Means when it actually began to evolve.

History of Virtualization

Virtualization was first developed in the 1960s to partition large, mainframe hardware for better hardware utilization. Today, computers based on x86 architecture are faced with the same problems of rigidity and underutilization that mainframes faced in the 1960s.

In the Beginning: Mainframe Virtualization

Virtualization was first implemented more than 30 years ago by IBM as a way to logically partition mainframe computers into separate virtual machines. These partitions allowed mainframes to “multitask”: run multiple applications and processes at the same time. Since mainframes were expensive resources at the time, they were designed for partitioning as a way to fully leverage the investment.

The Need for x86 Virtualization

Virtualization was effectively abandoned during the 1980s and 1990s when client-server applications and inexpensive x86 servers and desktops led to distributed computing. The broad adoption of Windows and the emergence of Linux as server operating systems in the 1990s established x86 servers as the industry standard. The growth in x86 server and desktop deployments led to new IT infrastructure and operational challenges.

Now lets understand what actually virtualization means!!!!!!!

What is Virtualization?

Virtualization allows multiple operating system instances to run concurrently on a single computer;

it is a means of separating hardware from a single operating system. Each “guest” OS is managed by

a Virtual Machine Monitor (VMM), also known as a hypervisor. Because the virtualization system sits

between the guest and the hardware, it can control the guests’ use of CPU, memory, and storage,

even allowing a guest OS to migrate from one machine to another. While virtualization technology is most popular in the server world, virtualization technology is also being used in data storage such as Storage Area Networks, and inside of operating systems such as Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V.

Virtualization Advantages:

Server consolidation

Reduced power and cooling

Green computing

Ease of deployment and administration

High availability and disaster recovery

Popular virtualization products include:

VMware

Microsoft Hyper-V

Virtual Iron

Xen

Hope you got some information from this. Please drop your comments. Wait till I get a new post.

Till then Enjoy and have a good time!!!!!!!

Reducing costs, accelerating processes and simplifying management are all vital to the

success of an effective IT infrastructure. Companies are increasingly turning to more

flexible IT environments to help them realize these goals. Cloud computing enables tasks

to be assigned to a combination of software and services over a network. This network of

servers is the cloud. Cloud computing can help businesses transform their existing server

infrastructures into dynamic environments, expanding and reducing server capacity

depending on their requirements.
Cloud computing is the convergence and evolution of several

concepts from virtualization, distributed application design, grid, and enterprise IT management

to enable a more flexible approach for deploying and scaling applications.

Why cloud COMPUTING?

Adopting a cloud computing strategy can help businesses conduct their core business

activities with less hassle and greater efficiency. Companies can maximize the use of their

existing hardware to plan for and serve specific peaks in usage. Thousands of virtual

machines and applications can be managed more easily using a cloud-like environment.

Businesses can also save on power costs as they reduce the number of servers required.

And with IT staff spending less time managing and monitoring the data centre, IT teams

are well placed to further streamline their operations as staff complete more work on fewer

machines.

cloud COMPONENTS?

Wait for next post in which all components are explained in detailed…

Till then have a good time!!!

How Are Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Related?

If you’ve heard about Windows SharePoint Services, you may wonder how it relates to Office SharePoint Server 2007. Windows SharePoint Services is an enabling technology that is included in Microsoft Windows Server 2003. It helps teams stay connected and productive by providing easy access to the people, documents, and information that they need to make well-informed decisions and get work done. Office SharePoint Server 2007 relies on Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 technology to provide a consistent, familiar framework for lists and libraries, site administration, and site customization. Any features that are available in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 are also available in Office SharePoint Server 2007.

Office SharePoint Server 2007 also offers enhanced and additional features that are not available on a Windows SharePoint Services site. For example, both Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services include site templates for collaborating with colleagues and setting up meetings. However, Office SharePoint Server 2007 includes additional site templates that are related to enterprise and publishing scenarios.

The following table shows an overview of capabilities that are available in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, Office SharePoint Server 2007 Standard edition, and Office SharePoint Server 2007 Enterprise edition. For a complete breakdown of the features of Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, please download the product comparison chart (168 KB .xls worksheet).

If you have ever learned a programming language, you know that they all start with the “Hello, world!” example, and who are we to break such a fine tradition? Start Visual C# Express (introduced in the last chapter), and select File -> New project… From the project dialog, select the Console application. This is the most basic application type on a Windows system, but don’t worry, we won’t stay here for long. Once you click Ok, Visual C# Express creates a new project for you, including a file called Program.cs.

The code of your first application should now look like this:-

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Text;

namespace ConsoleApplication1
{
class Program
{
static void Main(string[] args)
{
Console.WriteLine(“Hello, world!”);
Console.ReadLine();
}
}
}

Hit F5 to run it, and you will see the black window actually staying, and even displaying our greeting to the world. Okay, so we added two lines of code, but what to they do? One of the nice things about C# and the .NET framework is the fact that a lot of the code makes sense even to the untrained eye, which this example shows. The first line uses the Console class to output a line of text, and the second one reads a line of text from the console. Read? Why? Actually this is a bit of a trick, since without it, the application would just end and close the window with the output before anyone could see it. The ReadLine command tells the application to wait for input from the user, and as you will notice, the console window now allows you to enter text. Press Enter to close it. Congratulations, you have just created your first C# application!

With the introduction of the .NET framework, Microsoft included a new language called C# (pronounced C Sharp). C# is designed to be a simple, modern, general-purpose, object-oriented programming language, borrowing key concepts from several other languages, most notably Java.

C# could theoretically be compiled to machine code, but in real life, it’s always used in combination with the .NET framework. Therefore, applications written in C#, requires the .NET framework to be installed on the computer running the application. While the .NET framework makes it possible to use a wide range of languages, C# is sometimes referred to as THE .NET language, perhaps because it was designed together with the framework.

C# is an Object Oriented language and does not offer global variables or functions. Everything is wrapped in classes, even simple types like int and string, which inherits from the System.Object class.
